What is the meaning of this saying "cute as a button" then? Who says that and why?
There are buttons for shirts, jackets, pants, dvd players, microwave ovens, dashboards of cars, trucks and boats. Buttons on cell phones, web sites, computers, vending machines.
I don't think buttons are "cute" ... really? Let's take a shirt button as an example. It's round, it can be colored, it can be big, medium, small, etc. But it's only an object, just a thing.
If someone said I looked as "cute as a button" I'd be pissed off. A button is like a retard. It's just there, staring at you. Nothing else. Just there. Propped up in the corner somewhere because no one has anytime or patience to entertain it.
If someone said I looked as "cute as a button" it's the equivalent of calling me a mongoloid. With a huge head drooling on myself.
That's not cute.
Buttons are not cute. They're necessary, but not cute. Don't compare me to a button.
